We bless God for the success of Fola and Friend’s visit to the lepers colony last weekend. I will love to appreciate all my friends who came and those who dropped their quota. Everything you made a available mattered.
Let me tell you a little bit about the lepers colony. The people you see in these pictures are the elders of the community. They are the ones who will attend to corporate bodies visiting. They are the ones who are the affected by the disease. But they are recovering but not before the disease did a number on them.
The Lepers Colony Ago Ireti, is a huge community, and these elders have children and teenagers who live amongst them. In an interview with one of the teenage girls who is already in the university. The lady whose face we cannot show for obvious reasons says
” Look at us, we are normal people, there is nothing wrong with us, we live amongst them and we are okay. But the outside world must not know our parents are here, they will not talk to us again. They will discriminate against us, aunty please don’t show our faces o, else we will not find husbands. The government tries for us, we don’t pay rent and they pay our parents 10k per month but it can barely feed us. We have people in the society that help some of us through school, without them I don’t know what will happen to us”.
I sat down to think about the obvious truth and impact of her words, I counted over 20 young girls. They have teenage boys there too, these kids are the only joy their aged parents have.
Its not enough to go there and drop things for them. Am calling on all the good people of Nigeria home and abroad that could assist with their tuition. One child per time, only God knows what some of them do to survive, feed their parents and how.
Only God knows what their future holds without proper education. I was impressed when a woman who sponsors one of the girls came to say hi and she met us.
Remember whatsoever you do to the least of your brethren, that you do unto Jesus. These are the least and needy amongst us. Let’s do our bits. Please call Fola on 08032728893 to be a part of this
